Another Birthday gift.... Yes I know I am a major Spoily Pants!!!

This is a beautiful chrome and glass retro style martini/mixed drinks cocktail shaker. It stands 7 1/2" tall and is in great condition. It has a removable chrome top and the spout has a removable lid for easy mixing and pouring. The top chrome section has a rubber seal that prevents leaks when shaking. The graphics on the sides of the glass are very retro 1950's with red boomerangs and frosted glass lines in the background with drawings of drink glasses. It even gives the ingredients to mix several drinks.

Cost: Purchased on eBay and received as yet another birthday gift!

Happy Birthday.... cont'd

This is a vintage cut glass and chrome martini cocktail shaker/mixer. What makes this shaker a little more funky is a built-in battery- operated blender! Unfortunately, I could not determine what type of battery this takes – it appears to be slightly larger than a “C” but slightly smaller than a “D”? So I have not been able to determine if the mixer portion still works. This still functions well as a manual shaker and makes for a fantastic addition to any barware display.

The glass shaker features a cut glass diamond pattern on the top ¼ of the shaker with the words COCKTAIL BLENDER. The bottom ¾ of the glass shaker features architectural vertical lines radiating up from a cut-glass sunburst base. The top of the shaker screws off and is made of chrome. The shaker measures 9 ½ inches tall.

Cost: purchased on eBay, only the gift giver knows!

Another Shaker Style

The other common shaker I thought I would add to the collection next is the 2 nesting cups.
Generaly the one cup is glass the other Stainless Steel. I found this one on Ebay as well, and although the seller was against shipping to Canada, we convinced them to ship to some of my relatives in Michigan, then my dad on a trip through to see us here in Oakville, was nice enough to act as delivery boy.

Found: Ebay
Price: $8.00, and one yet to be claimed favour to my dad.

Who woulda figgured Ebay had a use?

A little research about my new found hobby, and we discovered that Hazel Atlas made some pretty cool shakers, and in my opinion the Pink Elephant shaker tops this list. Soon Tina had won a bid on Ebay from a lady in Ottawa for a Pink Elephant Shaker and 5 matching glasses.

Found Ebay
Price $100.00USD

A collector in the making.

Off for a day trip with my new friend... Hmm... new friend. What a lucky SOB Iam.

We decided to do a little antique hunting through Fergus, and Elora. While walking through the stalls I saw a shaker then another, and soon I was seeing them all over, and before the day was out I had bought somewhere around 10 shakers. Most were in the same 50's style, and prices ranged from $5.00 to $25.00. What a blast it was great fun. Here are some of the pics from my first real shaker hunt.

The Birth of a collection

While I was cruising the Kerr street strip near my new bach pad, I found a little used stuff store, I was really looking for card/booze theme stuff, when I saw this shaker.

It looked quite retro, and as I found out later it is a repro taken from the styles popular in the 50's and 60's.

Little did I know that it was the start of a obssesion....

Found: Kerr Street, now gone junk store
Price $18.00,, easily found from $12-$20

My First Shaker

My first Cocktail Shaker was certianly a very pedestrian purchase. I had tried a Martini with my Sister and her Hubby, and although I was initially unimpressed, the drink quickly grew on me.

Soon I found myself searching out my own Shaker. This stainless shaker is the work-horse of my collection.

Found at the Bay.

Price $24.99

The moment before that first sip of an icy cold Gin Martini,, could life get any better than this?

Origins of the word "cocktail"

Perhaps the greatest mystery of mankind, well mabey not, but an interesting read for those who like to sit back after a long day and shake a little gin and vermouth.
